It's Been So Long...

Since I've started this blog and actually posted my second post! Well, I guess this'll be an update...

Over the summer, I completed a internship. It was a research internship at Iowa State University. As I stated, this blog will be about natural things, so, my research was on a natural fiber, hemp. Now, before you get all weirdly excited over the word "hemp," let me clear up some facts about it. Hemp, scientifically known as cannabis sativa, is traditionally harvested for its industrial uses. It does not carry high levels of tetrahydrocannibinol (THC), like its cousin cannabis indica, or marijuana. Therefore, as quoted by my mentor, "You can not get high from smoking hemp. It will give you a headache, at best."

There is so much ill-placed confusion about hemp, that it has been deemed illegal to grow in the United States. In the 21st century, when there are obvious differences in hemp and marijuana, the illegality of hemp remains. On to the purpose and results of my research...

The purpose of my research project was to determine consumers' feelings about hemp. The results were unanimous: the growing of hemp should be made legal in the United States, based on the positive qualities and end uses, and the marketing of hemp should be drastically improved.

I completed the internship at ISU and my goal was to continue the research on my campus (North Carolina A&T State University). Unfortunately, I was unable to do so. Hopefully, I will be able to continue the research during graduate school at the University of Georgia, and possibly visit North Carolina A&T State some other time. It would be nice to get a more broad opinion of hemp.

I hope ya learned a bit! Until the next post (which'll be a lot sooner than this one!),

Mais tarde,

MS Tyler
